Part 1 · How the sync works

YaizY is the source of grades. Canvas receives a copy.

Each enabled assignment in a YaizY group becomes one column in the Canvas Gradebook. The column is named after the assignment plus its due date, for example Final Project: Film 10/7/2026. The due date matches the assignment's End Date on YaizY. Every column is out of 100 points.

Grades are sent to Canvas when:

A teacher saves a grade in the YaizY Gradebook. The score reaches Canvas within 1–2 seconds — even if the value did not change.
YaizY recalculates grades on its own — a graded quiz is completed or retaken, a student self-assesses, a due date passes. Only changed scores are sent. This happens periodically, usually within about 10 minutes.
A teacher enables an assignment in Assignments. The column appears with all current scores within seconds.
An administrator presses Re-Sync with Partner (see Part 5).

Connecting a group to a course does not create columns by itself. After you connect a group, press Re-Sync with Partner once — the columns and the current scores appear.

If grade sync is switched off for your school, nothing is sent to Canvas: no scores, no column changes, no deletions.

Part 2 · What is transferred

What you see on YaizY and what Canvas receives is not always the same. Read the table by status.

Status on YaizY	What YaizY shows	What Canvas receives
Graded (your grade, a quiz or a retake)	The score as a percentage	The same score out of 100: 73 % becomes 73/100. YaizY never gives less than 35 %, so Canvas never receives a score below 35.
Missed (quiz or project not submitted after the due date)	35 %	35, as a normal grade. It counts in the Canvas course total.
Review required (the student submitted, you have not graded yet)	Review required. If the student self-assessed, their percentage is shown next to it.	35 for now, marked in Canvas as waiting for a grade. Canvas does not count it in the course total. The real score arrives when you grade the work on YaizY.
Student self-assessment	Review required with the self-assessed percentage	35 for now, marked as waiting for a grade. The self-assessed percentage itself is not transferred. The final score arrives with your grade.
Required (nothing submitted, not graded yet)	Required. In the CSV export of the Gradebook the same cell shows 35 %. It is not counted in YaizY averages.	Nothing. The Canvas cell stays empty until there is a grade.
Excused	Excused	Nothing. The Canvas cell stays as it is. If you want Excused in Canvas, set it in Canvas.
